Abstract
urt Gottschaldt was the German pioneer in behavioral genetic research . His 30 year longitudinal study with monozygotic and dizygotic twins is so unique that the lack of detailed publication of his results is very unfortunate . In this paper, Gottschaldt's biography, his views of the development of human personality, and his empirical studies are reviewed . The empirical and theoretical results as published by Gottschaldt and their impact an the scientific discussion are presented in detail . Further, information is provided an how this study is completed into a 55 year longitudinal study, by the Max Planck Institute of Psychological Research in Munich .
