Abstract
Chapter 12 of the book "The Handbook of Economic Sociology," second edition, edited by Neil J. Smelser and Richard Swedberg is presented. It explores how trade unions relate with labor markets, the significance of trade unionism on the interaction of supply and demand in various types of labor market, and the classification of labor markets and trade unions. It highlights the coevolution of contemporary trade unions, labor markets, and the welfare in advanced industrial countries.
