Abstract
Four diastereomers of a simple subtructure of cytostatin containing the alpha,beta-unsaturated lactone subunit were synthesized and their NMR-spectroscopical data were compared with values recorded for the natural product in order to unravel the relative stereochemistry in cytostatin.
