Tomasello, M., & Slobin, D. I. (Eds.). (2005). Beyond nature-nurture: Essays in honor of Elizabeth Bates. Mahwah, N.J.: Lawrence Erlbaum.

(from the create) This book is dedicated to Elizabeth Bates by her many colleagues and friends. Her bibliography spans three decades of intense activity in the sciences of the mind: 1973-2003. Through this period, Liz was a pioneer in so many different areas of developmental psycholinguistics it is difficult to know where to start. She took a "many-perspectives" view of children's acquisition of language and made significant contributions from virtually all of these perspectives. In this volume some of Elizabeth Bates's colleagues and collaborators provide up-to-date reviews of these and other areas of research in an attempt to continue in the directions in which she pointed us. The volume also contains a list of her many important publications, as well as some personal reflections of some of the contributors, noting ways in which she made a difference in their lives. In this introduction we provide a brief overview of Bates's scientific history by focusing on the major books she produced, either singly or, as is most often the case, with many important co-authors.
