Abstract
Abstract Aquatic insects are systematically heterogeneous but their common habitat unites their students and aquatic entomology forms a coherent field of research. It is increasingly called upon by limnology and for practical purposes. Students of the various taxa are well organized and cooperate effectively. Nevertheless, a review of some groups of native aquatic insects indicates need for still more intensive studies.
