Zusammenfassung
Studies on the feeding ecology of Gammarus pulex (L.) and Gammarus fossarum KOCH, 1835 (Crustacea, Amphipoda) in a grassland- and a forest stream. The allochthonous and autochthonous input of coarse particulate organic matter (CPOM) into two small streams in a hilly landscape in East-Hesse was measured quantitatively and qualitatively throughout a year. The first stream mainly runs through open grassland, the other is generally shaded by deciduous trees. Field studies and laboratory experiments were carried out to determine food preferences of the gammarids and the nutritious value of the input material. The results were used to characterize the trophic situation of both Gammarus pulex and G. fossarum in different types of streams. It was shown that G. pulex is rather flexible in taking up organic matter of various origin while G. fossarum much more a specialist on food resources of forest streams.
