Abstract
Shadows are an indispensable part of any realistic computer-synthesized image. They contribute important information about spatial relationships among objects in a scene. Todays most common shadow technique is Shadow Mapping proposed by Williams. This thesis presents two new shadow map parameterizations to improve overall shadow quality and making the shadow mapping algorithm capable to handle hemispherical and omnidirectional light sources.
