Abstract: The photodissociation of polyatomic molecules is discussed in terms of accurate potential energy surfaces for excited electronic states and exact quantum mechanical dynamics calculations. After a brief presentation of the theoretical tools, diffuse vibrational structures are discussed in detail for several triatomic molecules in order to elucidate the relationship with the intramolecular dynamics in excited states. Another focus is the various types of nonadiabatic transitions between different states along the dissociation path.
