 Abstract: Fighting back: A concise route to the pterocarpene derivative erypoegin H, a natural product endowed with considerable activity against a range of methicillin-resistant Staphyllococcus aureus strains and vancomycin-resistant enterococci, has been developed. The key step in the synthesis is a PtCl2-catalyzed carboalkoxylation reaction of an alkyne (see retrosynthesis; Piv=pivaloyl).
