High specific surface areas and adjustable pore sizes are outstanding characteristics of nanoporous silicon nitride based materials prepared by using oxygen-free molecular precursors in a novel template-assisted sol–gel approach. The nitrides represent a new class of shape-selective superbase catalysts.
