The substitution of Zn on the Cu-site and Si on the Ge-site of CuGeO3
quenches the spin-Peierls state. All substitutions lead to a suppression
of the spin-Peierls gap seen below T-SP=14K at 30 cm(-1) and to a change
of the temperature dependence of the spinon continuum at 200-350 cm(-1)
attributed to a frustration induced Heisenberg exchange scattering. A
substitution of Zn on the Cu-site has the strongest effect. The change
of the continuum results from a local depression of the spin-Peierls gap
near the impurity.
