Abstract: Recent meta-analyses have revealed that functional traits and evolutionary history influence dead wood and leaf litter decay rates, but little is known about how these decay rates co-vary over a wide range of species and ecosystems. We provide a first global scale test of hypotheses relating decomposition rates of different tissue types to their functional traits across organs.
