 Abstract: The improvement of crop yield has been endeavoured for centuries; whereas traditional breeding strategies have achieved this, until recently transgenic approaches to yield improvement have generally been less successful. in this mini-review, we discuss metabolic engineering strategies specifically targeting energy metabolism as a strategy for yield enhancement.
