Abstract: Interleaved TMS/fMRI is a promising technique to study connectivity between brain areas. An important practical challenge is the positioning of the coil inside the MRI scanner. We describe a novel method that combines software and hardware for accurate TMS coil placement and report pilot results on its usage studying the motor system. In a phantom study, the accuracy of the method was demonstrated to be within the range previously reported for normal neuronavigation systems. The results of the motor cortex study are in concordance with prior findings, demonstrating the viability of our positioning method and our overall interleaved TMS/fMRI setup.
