Abstract: A multitude of sensory signals and perceptual processes are involved in the control of human walking. In return, also the human walking behaviour has a profound effect on the way we perceive the world. To investigate the interaction between multisensory perception and locomotion we constructed different locomotion environments containing a treadmill and some visualization. We focus here on the perception of visual motion and the interaction with walking speed. In several studies we found that motion perception is increased for high visual speeds and decreased for low visual speeds. The results will be discussed in terms of multisensory integration.
