Abstract: The eSciDoc infrastructure is built as a service-oriented (SOA) platform that uses Fedora Commons Repository Software to store and administer the content. The Max Planck Digital Library (MPDL) further developed services and solutions which enrich the overall landscape of the eSciDoc infrastructure. The infrastructure provides two groups of services: core and additional services. Core services are responsible for the management and retrieval of digital resources, they additionally implement mechanisms to authenticate and authorize users against XACML-based policies. Additional services implement more specific functionalities such as the management of Named Entities (controlled vocabularies), SWORD depositing, fine-grained validation of data against user-defined rules, data transformation and data acquisition from external repositories. We present how the composition of various eSciDoc and external services is used to deliver functionality for application development, as well as the specialization of the generic eSciDoc data model through content models, to support discipline-specific data. These will be showcased by selected examples of already operational solutions developed at the MPDL, e.g. user-centred collaborative working environments, presentation and enrichment of image-based research data (FACES), digitized textual resources (ViRR), publications (PubMan - the publication repository software used at the Max Planck Society) or Wordpress-based collection presentation. During the poster session we will provide insight into the experiences we’ve made during the rollout within the Max Planck Society.
