Abstract: Between Vogelsberg and Rhoen in the highlands of upper Hesse, the Turbellaria and Oligochaeta were investigated in different types of streams. The local distribution of 94 spp. of Turbellaria and 81 spp. of Oligochaeta is pointed out qualitatively and quantitatively in relation to the substrate. The effects of seasonal changes in currents on the composition of substrate and microhabitats and their resulting influence on the distribution of Turbellaria and Oligochaeta is assessed in a woodland and in a meadow stream. The disturbance of the microhabitats caused by high waters in spring and the autumnal stagnation and sedimentation are the main causes of the drastic changes in abundances and distribution.
