Abstract:
The different species of Gammarus (G. fossarum, G. pulex, and G. roessli) have been reduced in running waters of Hesse due to a detoration of the respiratory conditions (decrease of oxygen and pH values). Also desiccation and regulations of river beds lead to the same feature. The following description of Gammarus as ecotype exhibits the value of gammarids as indicator for anthropogene destructions of running waters. The amount of these destructions is shown by examples from the Vogelsberg and the Kaufungen forest.
