Abstract: Current spreads insecticides from the catchment in the water body of streams and removes the arthropods killed, i.e., half of the stream fauna. Biocenoses collapse. Stream recovery requires 1 year or more. Pollution of lower courses ecologically isolates near-to-natural upper runs, hindering recolonization; lasting reduction of the high natural biodiversity of these headwater refugia may soon occur.
