Abstract:
A floristic survey of mosses of the Breitenbach, a small unpolluted first order stream in eastern Hesse (Vogelsbergkreis, Schlitz-county) in 1996 and 1997 revealed 56 species, among them the water-mosses Amblystegium fluviatile, A. tenax, Brachythecium rivulare, Calliergon cordifolium, Chiloscyphus polyanthos, Fontinalis antipyretica, Pellia epiphylla, Platyhypnidium riparioides and Scapania undulata. Brachythecium rivulare was the most dominant species. Open areas in the banks produced mainly by floods are inhabited by a rather high number of short living moss-species.
