Full Paper: Langmuir-Blodgett-Kuhn (LBK) multilayer assemblies of poly(ethyl methacrylate) (PEMA) were analyzed by X-ray- (XR) and neutron reflectometry (NR). The preparation of alternating stacks of perdeuterated and protonated layers allowed for the determination of the inner layer structure via NR. The depression of the glass-transition temperature T-g of these thin films was examined by surface plasmon spectroscopy (SPS) and waveguide spectroscopy (WGS). The depression of a relaxation temperature of the chains in LBK film was measured and related to the T-g depression of spincoat systems. The T-g depression appeared to be independent of the conformation of the polymer chains.
