Abstract: The nervous system of the fly is estimated to consist of about 106 neurons. It is a complex system that can be studied at several different levels. The first level may be characterized as that at which the nature of the overall computation is expressed in the behavior of the organism. At the second level are the algoritms that implement a computation, whereas the third level deals with the realization of the algorithms at the cellular level.
