Abstract: By putting a weir immediately below an emergence trap, current velocity was reduced, and thus a layer of fine sand was deposited. There was a significant decrease in specimen numbers for most of the dominant taxa, Agapetus fuscipes, Tinodes rostocki, Sericostoma personatum, and Rhyacophila fasciata . No effect was observed for Apatania fimbriata and Chaetopteryx villosa . Trichoptera biomass was reduced for about 1/3 to 2/3. The amount of specimens in the sandy trap showed a heavy influence of the mode of emergence in between different species. Drift distances during emergence vary from about 50 cm to 10 m, depending on current velocity and on the species.
